My work as a freelance translator began in 2010, and it has been mostly dedicated to translating and reviewing scientific texts within the Health Sciences area.
The preference for the Health field is mainly based on having completed my secondary school education in the area of Sciences and Technologies, and having subsequently attended the Integrated Masters in Veterinary Medicine for three years. It was after those three years that I decided it was time to pursue my passion for languages, and so I completed the Bachelor in Translation and subsequently the Masters in Specialised Translation. With my scientific background and my education in Translation I was able to reconcile all the acquired knowledge and apply it to my work. Thus, I developed my specialisation in translating and editing texts within the area of Health Sciences.
Besides my commitment to work-related projects, I have always paid special attention to education and training. At FLUP (Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto), the Bachelor in Translation provided me with important linguistic and translation-related knowledge that I developed and fine-tuned in the Masters in Translation. With my master’s thesis, entitled “Translation and editing of scientific papers to be published in English within the Health area”, I was able to study more thoroughly the tasks potentially involved in the translation and editing of scientific papers and the demands of these services, particularly within the Health area. Furthermore, the regular reading of articles and attendance of conferences allow me to continuously analyse different perspectives, learn with and from more-experienced professionals, and keep up-to-date.
My aim as a committed translator is to apply all the knowledge I acquire to fulfilling the client's requests. I focus on clearly passing on the right message to the target audience, using the required tools and never underestimating the value of comprehensive search techniques. As a service provider, I also consider it important to always answer any question clients may have, allowing them to accompany the project.

Master's degree member of the EMT (European Master's in Translation); its curriculum takes into account the European Quality Standard for Translation Services of May 2006 (European Norm EN-15038).
This Masters allowed me to achieve professional-level command of English and Spanish, and to develop, from a professional perspective, my theoretical and practical knowledge and abilities related to translation. The curriculum is presented on the course's webpage.
My master’s thesis, entitled “Translation and editing of scientific papers to be published in English within the Health area”, allowed me to study more thoroughly the tasks potentially involved in the translation and editing of scientific papers, as well as the demands of these services within the Health area in particular.
This bachelor degree was extremely important for me to achieve in-depth comprehension of the languages I work with (through language-related subjects and English, Spanish and Portuguese linguistics), and to acquire the most relevant theoretical and practical knowledge within the translation field.
